Google services may use your data connection in the background, and you pay any data costs

Google services may frequently use the internet when you're not actively using them or your device, for purposes such as software updates and improving Google's services, security, user experience and operations, including advertising. This uses your cellular, Wi-Fi or other connections and may count against your data allowance, and you're responsible for all of these network usages and associated costs. Google suggests checking your plan and your device and network settings.
