You must be over sixteen and the age of majority, and the intended invitee

To the extent applicable law prohibits it, the Services are not intended for, and should not be used by, anyone under sixteen or anyone under the age of majority set by the data protection laws and regulations of your jurisdiction. By using Slack you represent that you are over the legal age and are the person Customer actually invited. If either statement is not true you may not access or use the Services for any purpose. The terms add that you must be of legal working age.

Supporting quotations

To the extent prohibited by applicable law, the Services are not intended for and should not be used by (a) anyone under the age of sixteen or (b) anyone under the applicable age of majority according to the data protection laws and regulations in your jurisdiction.
You represent that you are over the legal age and are the intended recipient of Customer’s invitation to the Services.
You may not access or use the Services for any purpose if either of the representations in the preceding sentence is not true.
Without limiting the foregoing, you must be of legal working age.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • The age limits apply 'to the extent prohibited by applicable law'.
  • Two representations are required: over the legal age, and the intended recipient of Customer's invitation.
  • The second age test is the age of majority 'according to the data protection laws and regulations in your jurisdiction'.

Not stated here

  • The terms do not define 'legal working age' or say which jurisdiction's law decides it.

All Authorized Users must follow the Acceptable Use Policy and the Customer's policies

Every Authorized User must comply with Slack's Acceptable Use Policy and any applicable policies the Customer has set. If you see inappropriate behavior or content, the terms ask you to report it to your Primary Owner or employer, rather than to Slack. The Customer's own policies are not part of this document and are not described here.

Supporting quotations

all Authorized Users must comply with our [Acceptable Use Policy](https://slack.com/acceptable-use-policy) and any applicable policies established by Customer
If you see inappropriate behavior or content, please report it to your Primary Owner or employer.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Customer policies are covered only where they apply: the terms say 'any applicable policies established by Customer'.
  • The reporting request is phrased as 'please report', not as a stated obligation.

Not stated here

  • The content of the Acceptable Use Policy and of any Customer policies is not in this text.

Account & Service Control · Procedure

These terms last until your subscription ends or access is terminated; ask the Customer to close your account

The User Terms stay in effect until the Customer's subscription for you expires or ends, or until the Customer or Slack ends your access to the Services. If you want to end your account at any time or for any reason, including because you disagree with updates to the User Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, the terms direct you to contact the Customer.

Supporting quotations

These User Terms remain effective until Customer’s subscription for you expires or terminates, or your access to the Services has been terminated by Customer or us.
Please contact Customer if you at any time or for any reason wish to terminate your account, including due to a disagreement with any updates to these User Terms or the [Acceptable Use Policy](https://slack.com/acceptable-use-policy).

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Either the Customer or Slack can end your access.
  • The route to close your account described here is through the Customer.

Not stated here

  • The terms do not say whether Slack can close an account on request or what happens to your messages and files after termination.

Account & Service Control · Permission or license

Slack usually asks the Customer to fix violations first, but may step in and disable your account

If Slack thinks the Contract, the User Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy or another Slack policy has been violated and the Customer can simply fix it, for example by removing certain Customer Data, Slack says it will in most cases ask the Customer to act rather than step in. Slack may act directly, including by disabling your account, if the Customer does not take appropriate action or if Slack believes there is a credible risk of harm to Slack, the Services, Authorized Users or third parties. Slack decides for itself what action is appropriate.

Supporting quotations

If we believe that there is a violation of the Contract, User Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, or any of our other policies that can simply be remedied by Customer’s removal of certain Customer Data or taking other action, we will, in most cases, ask Customer to take action rather than intervene.
We may directly step in and take what we determine to be appropriate action (including disabling your account) if Customer does not take appropriate action or we believe there is a credible risk of harm to us, the Services, Authorized Users, or any third parties.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • 'In most cases' is not a promise: asking the Customer first is Slack's usual approach, not a stated guarantee.
  • Applies to violations that 'can simply be remedied by Customer's removal of certain Customer Data or taking other action'.
  • Direct action is allowed when the Customer does not act or Slack believes there is a credible risk of harm.

Not stated here

  • The terms do not describe notice to you or an appeal before an account is disabled.

Account & Service Control · Context

Slack's workspace relationship is with a 'Customer' who invites you

Access to a Slack workspace comes through an organization or other third party that the terms call the 'Customer'. The Customer invites you into a workspace, a unique domain where a group of users may access the Services. Examples given: if you join your employer's workspace, your employer is the Customer; if you join a workspace a friend created with a personal email address, the friend is the Customer and is the one authorizing you.

Supporting quotations

An organization or other third party that we refer to in these User Terms as “Customer” has invited you to a workspace
If you are joining one of your employer’s workspaces, for example, Customer is your employer.
she is our Customer and she is authorizing you to join her workspace

Qualifications & exceptions

  • 'Customer' can be an organization or an individual, depending on who set up the workspace.

Account & Service Control · Context

Customer's contract with Slack lets the Customer invite you; you become an Authorized User

The Customer has separately agreed to Slack's Customer Terms of Service or signed a written agreement with Slack or its affiliates (together, the 'Contract'). The Contract is what allowed the Customer to create and configure a workspace and invite you. Each invitee given access, including you, is an 'Authorized User'. Slack's commitment to deliver the Services is in the Contract with the Customer, and the Contract text is not part of this document. The terms also say that 'we', 'our' and 'us' currently refers to the applicable Slack entity in the Contract, so which Slack company you are dealing with depends on the Customer's Contract.

Supporting quotations

Customer has separately agreed to our [Customer Terms of Service](https://slack.com/terms-of-service) or entered into a written agreement with us or our affiliate(s) (in either case, the “Contract”)
each invitee granted access to the Services, including you, is an “Authorized User”
The Contract contains our commitment to deliver the Services to Customer, who may then invite Authorized Users to join its workspace(s).
“We”, “our” and “us” currently refers to the applicable Slack entity in the Contract (defined below).

Qualifications & exceptions

  • The 'Contract' is either the Customer Terms of Service or a written agreement with Slack or an affiliate.
  • Slack's commitment to deliver the Services is stated to be in the Contract with Customer, not in these User Terms.

Not stated here

  • The Customer Terms of Service or any written agreement with the Customer is not part of this agreement text.
  • This document does not name which Slack entity is the contracting party for any particular workspace.
