Billing Practices, Currency Policy & Renewal Prices

1. How We Process Payments & Currencies

At Surfshark, we strive to make payments as seamless as possible. While the prices on your order page may be displayed in your local currency based on your location (IP address), the actual transaction may be processed in a different currency.

We use currency optimization — we match your payment to a currency we support. This way, you’ll pay lower or no conversion fees, depending on your payment currency.

How Your Charge Currency is Determined

The currency you are charged in depends on the specific payment provider and the data available at the time of purchase:

  • Card Payments: We prioritize the country where your card was issued ("Card Country"). For example, if you are currently in the US but use a credit card issued in the UK, we will charge you in GBP to match your card. If we cannot detect the Card Country, we default to the currency associated with your current location (IP address).
  • AppleApple Pay: Due to technical processing requirements, Apple Pay transactions generally default to the currency associated with the country set in your Apple Pay account or device settings.
  • Other Payment Methods: For most other methods, the charge currency is determined by your location (IP address).

Please note: If your bank account or card is in a currency other than the one we support (e.g., your card is in SGD, but we charge in USD as indicated above), your bank may apply their own currency conversion fees. We do not control these bank-imposed fees.

2. Taxes

When buying a subscription plan for the first time, we add the sales tax / VAT applicable to the country you selected as your purchase location. For future renewals, the sales tax / VAT amount will be calculated and added to the renewal price using the current rate on the day the charge is deducted from your account.

3. Subscription Renewal Prices

All subscription plans renew automatically at the full price to ensure your service is not interrupted. We will inform you about your upcoming subscription renewal via email 30 days before the ending date (excluding 1-month plans). There are several important things that you must know about Surfshark renewal prices:

Surfshark reserves the right to conduct A/B price testing (“Testing“) as part of its business operations. The Testing may involve the comparison of different Services’ pricing strategies to assess their impact on users behavior, sales performance, or other relevant metrics. The displayed renewal prices may be subject to Testing. Surfshark reserves the right to modify or discontinue Testing at any time, without prior notice.
