Deletion or erasure: delete some data in-app or close your account; deletion then follows the retention rules

You have the right to delete personal data. You can delete some of the data you provided directly within the service, and you can close your account, after which Tinder says it will delete your data as laid out in this Privacy Policy. That phrase points to Section 9, which keeps certain data after closure for a safety window, legal retention periods and disputes, so closing your account does not mean immediate deletion of everything. You can also contact Tinder at any time with a deletion request.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Only some provided data can be deleted directly in-app.
  • Subject to the Section 8 caveat that rights depend on where you live.

Closing your account hides your profile; a new account within 90 days restores some data; two years inactive closes it

If you stop using the service you can close your account, and your profile will no longer be visible to other members in the app. If you create a new account with the same credentials within 90 days, Tinder will restore some data to help you start faster, which means closed-account data is still held during that window. Tinder also closes your account automatically after two years of inactivity. Deletion after closure follows the periods in the next cards.

During a suspension your data is kept for reinstatement; you may ask for deletion before the suspension ends

If your account is suspended, your profile is not visible on Tinder but your data is retained because the account will be reinstated when the suspension ends. At that point you can resume using Tinder or delete your account. You may also contact Tinder to request deletion of your account and data before the suspension period ends. Once the account is closed, including if you do not log in for two years after the suspension period, your data is deleted as described in the rest of Section 9.

Supporting quotations

If your account is suspended, your profile is not visible on Tinder, but we continue to retain your data as your account will be reinstated at the end of the suspension period.
You may also contact us to request deletion of your account and data before the suspension period ends. Once your account is closed, including if you don’t log in for 2 years following the suspension period, your data is deleted as described above.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Not logging in for two years after a suspension counts as closure.
