Paying by check authorizes a one-time electronic transfer, possibly the same day, and the check is not returned

When you pay American Express by check, you authorize it to use information from your check (such as routing number, account number and check serial number) to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your bank or other asset account. When it does this, your payment may be withdrawn from your bank or other asset account as soon as the same day it receives your check, and you will not receive that check back from your bank or financial institution.
