Paying by check authorizes a one-time electronic debit, possibly the same day, and the check is not returned

When you pay by check, you authorize the issuer to use information from the check (such as the routing number, account number and check serial number) to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your bank or other asset account. When it does this, the payment may be withdrawn as soon as the same day it receives your check, and you will not receive the check back from your bank or financial institution.
