Additional Points depend on merchant codes and reward categories

Merchants are assigned codes based on what they primarily sell, and the company groups certain merchant codes into categories eligible for additional Points. A purchase with a merchant will not receive additional Points if the merchant's code is not included in a reward category. You may not receive additional Points if the company receives inaccurate information or cannot identify your purchase as eligible for a reward category. Examples given of when you may not receive additional Points: a merchant uses a third party to sell its products or services; a merchant uses a third party to process or submit your transaction (for example, mobile or wireless card readers); or you pay with a third-party payment account or a mobile or digital wallet. For questions about additional Points on a purchase, the agreement directs you to call the number on the back of the Card, and points to americanexpress.com/rewards-info for more information about rewards.

Forfeiting Points for a missed minimum payment; reinstatement for $35

If the Minimum Payment Due is not paid by the Payment Due Date of the billing period in which it is due, you forfeit the Points you earned for eligible purchases during that billing period. The agreement's example says that if the billing period closes January 15 and the minimum payment is due February 10 and is not made by February 10, you will not earn Points for purchases in "the billing period ending February 15"; the example's two dates (closes January 15, ends February 15) are not reconciled in the text. You may reinstate those Points within the next 12 billing periods if your Card Account is not past due and you pay a $35 fee. "To pay by a certain date" means your payment is received and credited to the Account by that date.
