Charges & Financial Obligations · Company practice
Transfers usually take minutes, but security checks and other institutions can delay them
Most transfers occur in minutes. Identity verification, fraud prevention or regulatory requirements may delay or block payment. Wells Fargo says it will notify you according to your email, push or text preferences if it or Zelle delays or blocks your initiated payment. Neither controls other Users' or institutions' actions that can delay or prevent delivery.

Supporting quotations
In most cases, when you are sending money to another User, the transfer will occur in minutes; however, there are circumstances when the payment may take longer. For example, in order to protect you, us, Zelle® and the other Network Financial Institutions, we may need additional time to verify your identity or the identity of the person receiving the money.
The money may also be delayed or the transfer may be blocked to prevent fraud or comply with regulatory requirements. If we or Zelle® delay or block a payment that you have initiated, we will notify you in accordance with your communication preferences (i.e., email, push notification, text message).
Neither we nor Zelle® have control over the actions of other Users, other Network Financial Institutions or other financial institutions that could delay or prevent your money from being delivered to the intended User.
An unenrolled recipient must enroll to receive the money
An unenrolled recipient gets an email or text with enrollment instructions. If they fail to enroll or ignore the notice, the transfer does not occur and funds return to the Funding Account. Wells Fargo may debit you immediately and hold the money pending completion; for an unenrolled recipient, that hold may last up to fifteen business days before sending or returning it.

If you are sending money to someone who has not enrolled as a User with Zelle®, or with a Network Financial Institution, they will receive a text or email notification instructing them on how to enroll to receive the money. You understand and acknowledge that a person to whom you are sending money and who is not enrolled as a User may fail to enroll with Zelle®, or otherwise ignore the payment notification and the transfer will not occur and funds will be returned to funding account.
You agree that each payment instruction you give us is an authorization to send money on your behalf. You authorize us to withdraw the money from your Funding Account immediately upon receiving your instruction for the Transfer Transaction and to place the money in a suspense account pending completion of the Transfer Transaction. You understand and agree that in the case of a Transfer Transaction to a person who has not yet enrolled in the Zelle® Transfer Service, we may hold your money in the suspense account for up to fifteen business days before either returning the money to you or sending it to the recipient.
Qualifications & exceptions
Return need not be immediate: the suspense-account hold can last up to fifteen business days.

Users to whom you send payment requests may decline or ignore your request. Neither we nor Zelle® guarantee that you will receive money from other Users by sending a payment request, or that you will receive the amount that you request. Reporting a lost access device within two Business Days caps stated liability at $50 or less
For covered consumer-account EFTs involving a lost or stolen access device, including username and password, notice within two Business Days after learning of the loss limits liability to the lesser of $50 or unauthorized EFTs before notice. These rules exclude brokerage EFTs and business accounts. Extenuating circumstances causing delay extend the stated times by a reasonable period.

You authorize account access needed to complete transfers
You authorize access to your Funding and Deposit Accounts to initiate and complete transfers. The related limited power of attorney covers account access, transfer completion and instruction verification while using the service. It revokes once Wells Fargo actually knows you wish to stop and has a reasonable opportunity to act; good-faith acts before that remain authorized, and subsequent incapacity does not end it.

A transfer's completion and estimated delivery date are not guaranteed
Wells Fargo gives no warranty that a particular transfer will complete or meet a specified time; estimates are not binding. Others' actions can delay or prevent it. A recipient who has not enrolled, or has not enrolled the exact email, mobile number or tag you supplied, may not receive the transfer. The bank may make a reasonable retry effort and will notify you to contact the intended recipient if the transfer is not completed.

Wells Fargo can decline a transfer or honor another participant's block
Insufficient funding can lead to rejection. The bank also reserves discretion to refuse initiation or completion for any reason, decline or cancel payment instructions, and carry out change or cancellation requests. It may accept instructions from a User or their institution to block your transfers to that User or that institution's customers. This discretion gives you no general cancellation right: the sending rule permits cancellation only before the recipient enrolls and says enrolled-recipient payments cannot be revoked.

We may, in our sole discretion, accept instructions from any User or from a User’s Financial Institution to block your attempts to use the Zelle® Transfer Service to initiate Transfer Transactions with that User or customers of that institution.
You may only cancel a payment if the person to whom you sent the money has not yet enrolled their email address or U.S. mobile phone number in the Zelle® Transfer Service. If the person you sent money to has already enrolled with Zelle®, with a Network Financial Institution, the money is sent directly to their bank account (except as otherwise provided below) and may not be canceled or revoked.

Incoming payments usually arrive within minutes but can be delayed or blocked
Identity checks, fraud prevention and regulatory duties may delay or block an incoming payment. Other Users, the network operator and other institutions can also prevent or delay delivery. If Wells Fargo or Zelle blocks a payment you initiated through a request for money, Wells Fargo says it will notify you according to email or push preferences; the text does not promise that notice for every incoming-payment delay.

Most transfers of money to you from other Users will occur within minutes. There may be other circumstances when the payment may take longer. For example, in order to protect you, us, Zelle®, the other Network Financial Institutions and other Zelle® users, we may need or Zelle® may need additional time to verify your identity or the identity of the person sending the money. We or Zelle® may also delay or block the transfer to prevent fraud or to meet our regulatory obligations. If we or Zelle® block a payment that you have initiated through a request for money, we will notify you in accordance with your communication preferences (i.e. email, push notification).
We have no control over the actions of other Users, the Network Operator or other Network Financial Institutions that could delay or prevent a transfer of money to you.

Wells Fargo accepts liability for certain late or incorrect consumer transfers
For covered consumer-account EFTs, Wells Fargo says it is liable for losses or damages if it fails to transfer on time or in the correct amount as agreed. Exceptions include insufficient funds through no bank fault, exceeding linked overdraft credit, starting after notice of a known service breakdown, events beyond its control despite reasonable precautions, and other exceptions in agreements with you. This express commitment stands alongside the earlier broad transfer-liability disclaimer; the scope and exceptions must be preserved rather than treating that disclaimer as the only rule.

If we do not complete a Transfer Transaction to or from your account on time or in the correct amount according to our agreement with you, we will be liable for your losses or damages. However, there are some exceptions. For instance, we will not be liable if:
Through no fault of ours, you do not have enough money in your account to make the transfer,
The transfer would go over the credit limit on a credit account linked for Overdraft Protection,
You were notified the Zelle® Transfer Service was not working properly and you knew about the breakdown when you started the transfer,
Circumstances beyond our control (such as fire or flood) prevent the transfer, despite reasonable precautions we have taken, or
There is some other exception stated in any of our agreements with you.
