Free storage is 5 GB (1 GB web-only); Apple may delete data over your limit after 30 days' notice
Your account gets 5 GB of free iCloud storage, or 1 GB for a web-only account, which cannot be increased while it stays web-only. More storage can be bought. Going over any applicable or reasonable bandwidth or storage limit is prohibited and can stop backups, new documents or new email to your iCloud address. When you are over your storage limit, Apple may delete the stored data that exceeds the limit, after giving 30 days' notice.
Supporting quotations
Your Account is allocated 5GB of iCloud storage capacity (or 1GB for web-only accounts)
Exceeding any applicable or reasonable limitation of bandwidth, or storage capacity (for example, with photos, backup or email) is prohibited and may prevent you from backing up to iCloud, adding documents, or receiving new email sent to your iCloud email address.
You agree that when you are over your iCloud storage limit, Apple may, upon 30 days’ notice, delete any stored data that exceeds your storage limit.
You will receive 1 GB of free storage and you will not be able to increase this amount with a web-only account.
Qualifications & exceptions
- Deletion is permissive (Apple may delete), limited to data exceeding the storage limit, and requires 30 days' notice.
- Web-only accounts receive 1 GB and cannot buy more while web-only.
Not stated here
- The agreement does not say which data Apple would choose to delete when over the limit.

Apple may delete backups after 180 days without a backup and does not guarantee your stored content
If a device has not backed up to iCloud for 180 days, Apple may delete any backups associated with that device. Apple says it will use reasonable skill and due care, but to the greatest extent the law permits it does not guarantee that content you store or access through the Service will be safe from inadvertent damage, corruption, loss or removal under this agreement, and it is not responsible if that happens. Keeping your own alternate backup is your responsibility.
Supporting quotations
If a device has not backed up to iCloud for a period of one hundred and eighty (180) days, Apple reserves the right to delete any backups associated with that device.
Apple shall use reasonable skill and due care in providing the Service, but, TO THE GREATEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE BY APPLICABLE LAW, APPLE DOES NOT GUARANTEE OR WARRANT THAT ANY CONTENT YOU MAY STORE OR ACCESS THROUGH THE SERVICE WILL NOT BE SUBJECT TO INADVERTENT DAMAGE, CORRUPTION, LOSS, OR REMOVAL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, AND APPLE SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD SUCH DAMAGE, CORRUPTION, LOSS, OR REMOVAL OCCUR.
It is your responsibility to maintain appropriate alternate backup of your information and data.
Qualifications & exceptions
- Backup deletion is permissive (Apple reserves the right) and is tied to 180 days without a backup from that device.
- The no-guarantee statement applies to the greatest extent permissible by applicable law.

Apple may close accounts inactive for one year, or on discontinuing iCloud, after 30 days' email notice
Apple may terminate your account with 30 days' prior notice by email to your account address if the account has been inactive for one year or if Apple generally discontinues the Service or part of it. Notice of a general discontinuance may be skipped where giving it would not be reasonable because of legal or government action, security, privacy or technical-integrity concerns, preventing disruption to other users, or events outside Apple's control. If Apple terminates in these cases, it refunds any prepaid fees for your current paid term on a pro rata basis.

In addition, Apple may terminate your Account upon 30 days’ prior notice via email to the address associated with your Account if (a) your Account has been inactive for one (1) year; or (b) there is a general discontinuance of the Service or any part thereof.
Notice of general discontinuance of service will be provided as set forth herein, unless it would not be reasonable to do so due to circumstances arising from legal, regulatory, or governmental action;
In the event of such termination, Apple will provide you with a pro rata refund of any pre-payment for your then-current paid term.
Qualifications & exceptions
- One year of inactivity or a general discontinuance is required; 30 days' email notice applies, with listed exceptions for discontinuance notice.
