You can cancel any AT&T service at any time, but may lose bundle discounts and trigger device payments or fees

You may cancel any of your AT&T Services at any time. Cancelling may cost you bundling discounts; if you have an active installment plan for devices or accessories tied to the cancelled service, that installment agreement may treat cancellation as a default that makes the remaining installments due immediately; and some services may stop working, or work differently, after a bundled service is cancelled. If you have not met a term commitment, cancelling also makes you subject to any applicable early termination fee under 1.9.6.

Supporting quotations

You may cancel or terminate any of your AT&T Services at any time.
you might lose any discounts you obtained from bundling AT&T Services together;
if you have an active installment plan for devices or accessories associated with the cancelled AT&T Services, your agreement for that installment plan might specify that your termination of AT&T Service is a default that triggers acceleration of the remaining installment plan payments; and
some AT&T Services may not work (or work the same way) after the cancellation of a bundled service.
if a term commitment to maintain service or programming for a particular length of time is not met, and either you cancel an AT&T Service or we terminate it for misconduct, you will be subject to any applicable early-termination fee(s) under subsection 1.9.6.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Installment acceleration depends on the terms of your separate installment agreement.
  • Early termination fees apply when a term commitment is not met.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

On any termination: no proration, no refund of balances, software licenses end, equipment returns, data may be deleted

However and by whomever service ends: unless the law requires otherwise, charges are not prorated and you owe the full month even if service ends mid-cycle; any account balance or unused portion of the terminated service (such as Prepaid) is not refunded or credited; your licenses to associated software end; you must return equipment associated with the service if the applicable Service Terms or another agreement require it; and AT&T may delete data, files or other information associated with you, your Account or the terminated services. If a term commitment is not met and you cancel or AT&T terminates for misconduct, applicable early termination fees under 1.9.6 apply.

Supporting quotations

Regardless of the reason or whether you or we terminate your AT&T Services:
unless required by applicable law, there is no proration of charges and you are still responsible for the full month’s payment even if your AT&T Services are terminated before the end of a billing cycle;
any Account balance or unused portion for the terminated AT&T Service (such as a Prepaid service) will not be refunded or credited back;
your licenses to use any associated software are terminated;
you are obligated to return any Equipment associated with the terminated AT&T Service (if required by the applicable Service Terms or other agreement); and
we reserve the right to delete any data, files, or other information associated with you or your AT&T Account or terminated AT&T Services.
In addition, if a term commitment to maintain service or programming for a particular length of time is not met, and either you cancel an AT&T Service or we terminate it for misconduct, you will be subject to any applicable early-termination fee(s) under subsection 1.9.6.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • No proration applies unless required by applicable law.
  • Equipment return applies only if the applicable Service Terms or other agreement require it.
  • Early termination fees apply only where a term commitment is not met.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

You still pay applicable charges while a service is suspended

If any of your AT&T Services are suspended, you remain responsible for paying any applicable charges for that service.

Supporting quotations

If any of your AT&T Services are suspended, you are still responsible for paying any applicable charges for that AT&T Service.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

AT&T may refuse service, require deposits and set spending limits if it considers you a credit risk

AT&T may refuse service or require an advance payment, nonrefundable payment or other credit requirement if it determines you may be a credit risk because of your credit rating, insufficient credit history, previous late payments, suspension, disconnection or restoral, or fraudulent or abusive use of AT&T Services within the last five years. It pays no interest on advance payments or deposits unless the law requires, and may demand additional deposits if it decides the first was inadequate. AT&T may set limits and restrict services or features as it deems appropriate, may immediately interrupt or suspend service until your balance is below your limit, and charges above the limit are immediately due. Deposits are refunded, by bill credit, cash or otherwise, only once AT&T alone decides your payment history is satisfactory or the law requires.

Supporting quotations

We may refuse to provide AT&T Services or require an advance payment, a nonrefundable payment, or other form of credit requirement if we determine that you may be a credit risk due to (1) your credit rating; (2) insufficient credit history; (3) previous late payments, suspension, disconnection or restoral of service; or (4) fraudulent or abusive use of any AT&T Services within the last five years.
We will not pay interest on advance payments or deposits unless required by law.
We may establish limits and restrict AT&T Services or features as we deem appropriate. And we may immediately interrupt or suspend AT&T Services until your balance is brought below the limit we set for you. Any charges you incur in excess of your limit become immediately due.
Upon determination solely by us of satisfactory payment history or as required by law, we may begin refunding deposits through bill credits or cash payments or as otherwise determined solely by us.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • No interest on deposits unless required by law.
  • Deposit refunds depend on AT&T's sole determination of satisfactory payment history or a legal requirement.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

You pay all charges each cycle, including unauthorized ones and government fees, starting at activation

Billing varies by service, so each Service Terms section lists its own fees. You agree to pay in full each billing cycle (usually about every 30 days) current monthly charges, required equipment charges, activation, connection or installation charges, late and restoral fees, AT&T fees disclosed in the Service Terms, third-party content or services bought through your services or equipment, and taxes and fees AT&T pays to governments and may pass on to you whether the law assesses them on you or on AT&T. You are responsible for all charges, including those incurred by anyone who gains access to your services or equipment, even if you did not authorize them. Billing starts as soon as service is provisioned or activated, even if you have not used or installed it.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Late bills and returned payments, including card charge-backs, can incur fees

For each bill not paid in full by its due date AT&T may charge a late-payment fee, subject to applicable law and unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing. Accepting late or partial payments, even if marked "Paid in Full", does not waive AT&T's right to the full amount. A fee is charged for each check or other payment returned unpaid for any reason, including credit card charge-backs, subject to the same conditions.

Supporting quotations

You agree that, for each bill not paid in full by the payment due date, we may assess a late-payment charge (subject to applicable law and except as expressly agreed in writing).
Our acceptance of late or partial payments (even if marked “Paid in Full”) won’t waive any of our rights to demand payment of the full amount due.
You will also be charged a fee for each and any check or other forms of payment made (including credit card charge-backs) that are returned unpaid for any reason (subject to applicable law and except as expressly agreed in writing).

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Subject to applicable law and any express written agreement otherwise.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Unpaid bills can go to collections, and you pay AT&T's reasonable collection costs including attorney fees

If you do not pay in full and on time you may be subject to collection by AT&T or a third-party agency. To the extent the law permits, you must pay the costs and fees, including attorneys' fees, AT&T reasonably incurs to collect. Subject to applicable law, AT&T is not responsible for negative consequences of reporting your Account, payment information or history to credit reporting or collection agencies.

Supporting quotations

If you don’t pay your bill in full and on time, you agree that you may be subject to collections either by us or a third-party collections agency. To the extent permitted by law, you must pay us any costs and fees, including attorneys’ fees, we reasonably incur to collect amounts you owe us.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Collection costs are owed to the extent permitted by law.

Autopay lets AT&T charge or hold your card or bank account, including outstanding amounts after you cancel

If you enroll in automatic card billing, automatic payment or electronic funds transfer, you authorize AT&T or its agent to charge or place holds on the card or bank account you provide without a signed receipt, certify you own the payment method, authorize AT&T to store it, and authorize monthly charges on the date shown on your bill plus any amounts outstanding if you cancel service. If you had to give a credit card when starting a service, AT&T may charge that card instead for outstanding amounts after cancellation. Unless you opt out, your card-issuing bank's card updater program may send AT&T new card numbers and expiration dates, which AT&T will use to keep charging. AT&T is not responsible for insufficient-funds or other charges from its attempts to charge, hold or transfer funds, and may charge an additional fee if a card charge fails or a bank draft is returned. AT&T OneConnect and AT&T Build-a-Plan require autopay enrollment.

Supporting quotations

If you were required to provide a credit card when you started an AT&T Service, you also authorize us to charge that card (in lieu of your autopay card, if different) for any amounts outstanding if you cancel AT&T Service.
You acknowledge that, if your card-issuing bank participates in a card updater program and unless you opt out of this service, your bank may provide us with updated card numbers and expiration dates, and we will update our files with this information and continue to charge your card.
You agree that we’re not responsible for any insufficient funds or other charges you might incur as a result of any attempts to charge or place holds on your credit or debit card or to transfer funds.
If charges cannot be processed through your credit or debit card, or if your bank draft or electronic funds transfer is returned for insufficient funds, we may charge you an additional fee.
AT&T OneConnect requires enrollment in automatic credit-card billing, automatic payment, or electronic funds transfer, which is further described in Section 1.9.5.
AT&T Build-a-Plan requires enrollment in automatic credit-card billing, automatic payment, or electronic funds transfer, which is further described in Section 1.9.5.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • You can opt out of the card updater service.
  • For OneConnect and Build-a-Plan, autopay is required and cancelling it cancels the service at the end of the current Subscription Term.

Breaking a service or programming commitment means paying an early termination fee

Your Customer Service Summary, order confirmation or fee schedule may set a minimum period to keep service on an eligible plan (Service Commitment) or keep certain programming (Programming Commitment). If you do not meet that commitment you agree to pay an early termination fee. The Agreement describes the fee not as a penalty but as an alternative way to perform your obligations that partly compensates AT&T because your monthly rate was based on a commitment that was not completed. Service-specific ETF amounts and rules appear in the Service Terms.

Supporting quotations

Your Customer Service Summary, order confirmation, or applicable fee schedule for your AT&T Service may include a minimum period in which you must maintain service on an eligible plan (“Service Commitment”) or maintain certain programming (“Programming Commitment”). If you do not meet that commitment, you agree to pay an early termination fee.
That fee is not a penalty but rather is an alternative means for you to perform your obligations under the Agreement that partially compensates us for the fact that the Service Commitment or Programming Commitment on which your monthly rate is based was not completed.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Applies only if a commitment is stated in your Customer Service Summary, order confirmation or fee schedule.
  • You may avoid the fee by cancelling within 14 days of notice of a materially adverse change during a commitment (1.17.2).

Refunds include the taxes originally paid, but loyalty-style credits do not refund taxes

Supporting quotations

Unless your rate plan terms say otherwise, unused voice, messaging and data allotment does not carry over to another billing cycle.

  • Rollover is excluded unless your rate plan terms specify otherwise.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Roaming on other U.S. networks and international use are not included unless your plan says so

Unless your rate plan specifies otherwise, Wireless Service does not include use of other carriers' networks in the U.S. or use while traveling internationally, and additional charges may apply for them. Voice calls outside your rate plan's coverage area may also cost extra.

Service Commitments last a set period, then service renews month to month until cancelled

The Wireless Service Terms run from activation until service ends for any reason; you may have been required to provide a credit card to establish service and may use a card for recurring payments. If you agreed to a Service Commitment, you must keep service on an eligible plan for that period; after it ends, service continues month to month and automatically renews unless cancelled or terminated. Without a Service Commitment (for example, buying the Device at full price, on an installment plan, or bringing your own Device), service is month to month and automatically renews until cancelled or terminated.

Supporting quotations

These Wireless Service Terms begin on the day we activate your Wireless Service and continue through termination of your Wireless Service for any reason.
If you have agreed to a Service Commitment, you are required to maintain Wireless Service on an eligible plan for the Service Commitment period. Once you complete your Service Commitment, your contract for Wireless Service will continue on a month-to-month basis and automatically renews unless you cancel it or your Wireless Service is otherwise terminated.
If you do not have a Service Commitment (for example, you purchase your Device from us at full retail price, under an installment plan, or bring your own Device), your Service is provided on a month-to-month basis and automatically renews unless cancelled or terminated.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Activate a new device within 7 days, or AT&T may activate it and start billing

You agree to activate Wireless Service on the Device within seven days of the purchase or shipment date, whichever is later. For postpaid service, if you do not, AT&T may activate the Device for you within a month of shipping, and your monthly recurring charges and any Service Commitment then begin.

Supporting quotations

You agree to activate Wireless Service on the Device within seven (7) days of the purchase or shipment date, whichever is later. If your Device is not activated by you, for post-paid Wireless Service, we may activate the Device for you within a month of shipping and your monthly recurring charges, and any applicable Service Commitment, will begin.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Automatic activation applies to postpaid Wireless Service.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Leaving before your Service Commitment ends costs an ETF up to the device price, shrinking monthly

If you end the Agreement before completing your Service Commitment you agree to pay an ETF, unless it is waived under subsection 2.4.5. The ETF can be up to your purchase price and decreases for each full month of the Service Commitment you complete; details are at att.com/equipmentETF. Under 2.4.5, you avoid the ETF by cancelling within 14 days of activation and returning the purchased Device in like-new condition with original packaging, though a restocking fee may apply.

Supporting quotations

Qualifications & exceptions

  • Waived if you cancel within 14 days of activation and return the Device in like-new condition with original packaging.
  • A restocking fee may apply to returns.

Cancel any wireless line any time, but you pay what you used and get no mid-cycle refund

You can cancel any individual line or your whole wireless Account at any time. You must pay all amounts owed for service used before cancellation, including taxes, surcharges, AT&T fees and other fees, and authorized agents may charge additional fees. Cancelling within the first 3 days of activation gets your activation fee refunded, if applicable. "Unlimited" data means a flat price, not any speed or any use; misuse can move you to a tiered plan

On an unlimited data plan, "unlimited" means you pay one flat monthly rate regardless of how much data you use. It does not mean data moves at any particular speed or that you may use the service any way you like or for Prohibited Network Uses. If you use the plan in a prohibited way, AT&T can limit, restrict, suspend or terminate your Data Service, or migrate you to a tiered data plan and charge its monthly fees; for that migration AT&T will give at least one billing period's advance notice by bill message, email, text or other appropriate means.

Supporting quotations

If you use your unlimited data plan in any manner that is prohibited, AT&T can limit, restrict, suspend or terminate your Data Service. We may also migrate you from the unlimited data plan to a tiered data plan and charge you the appropriate monthly fees. We will provide you with notice of this change at least one billing period in advance either by a bill message, email, text message, or other appropriate means.

AT&T may automatically add International Day Pass when you travel, with daily fees unless you decline

When you travel where AT&T offers an International Day Pass or Cruise Day Pass, AT&T will try to add the feature automatically to lines whose plans do not include roaming for that destination, and texts you about it and its daily voice, messaging and data fees. You can decline by replying to the text, calling customer service or managing your account online. AT&T does not guarantee you will get these texts, or that its and partners' systems will detect you are roaming or successfully add the feature. Using talk, text or data under the pass incurs its daily fees; full terms are at att.com/idpterms.

When using talk, text, or data under IDP, you will be charged the applicable daily fees.

Qualifications & exceptions

Without a package, roaming abroad is billed at pay-per-use rates that can be much higher and change without notice

International roaming rates apply to all calls made or received, messages sent and data used outside the U.S.; they vary by country and may change without notice. Without an international roaming package or plan that applies, you pay pay-per-use rates that may be substantially higher per unit than package rates. Coverage abroad varies by Device, plan and package and may change at any time without notice. AT&T may send courtesy roaming alerts, but they are not guaranteed and are not a guarantee of any bill limit.

If you do not subscribe to an international roaming package or plan, or if an international roaming package or plan does not automatically apply to your wireless plan, you will be charged pay-per-use rates that may be substantially higher on a per unit basis than international package rates.
There is no guarantee you will receive these alerts and they are not a guarantee of a particular bill limit.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Abroad you can be charged for calls sent to voicemail and all data, and roaming charges may bill up to 3 cycles late

While roaming internationally you may be charged roaming airtime for incoming calls routed to voicemail, even with no message, for both the incoming call and the forward to voicemail. Unanswered calls can incur roaming charges even after you power off, if the Device had registered on a foreign network, because deregistration can lag. All data use is charged, including messaging apps, visual voicemail and cloud services, and taxes may apply. Roaming usage may be billed up to three billing cycles late because carriers report it with delay.

Supporting quotations

You may be charged international roaming voice airtime usage rates when incoming calls are routed to voicemail, even if no message is left, for both the incoming call and the call forward to voicemail.
You may also incur those roaming charges for unanswered calls if your Device is powered off if you previously had turned it on and allowed it to register on a foreign carrier’s network;
You will be charged for all data usage, including without limitation your use of messaging apps, visual voicemail and access to cloud-based services. You may also be charged taxes on international roaming rates. Billing for international roaming usage may be delayed up to three billing cycles due to the time it takes for wireless carriers to report international roaming usage.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Taking your phone abroad can rack up charges from background apps even if you do not try to roam

Substantial charges can arise when your Device is taken outside the U.S. even if you do not intentionally use international roaming, because many preloaded and downloaded apps send and receive data without your action while the Device is on. To block international roaming, you can call 314.925.6925, free from your AT&T wireless phone.

Supporting quotations

Please note that substantial charges may be incurred if your Device is taken out of the U.S. even if international roaming is not intentionally used.
If you want to block international roaming services, please call 314.925.6925 (at no charge from your AT&T wireless phone).

Some countries may not be reachable, calls to foreign wireless numbers may cost more than to wireline numbers, a call to a foreign wireline number forwarded to a wireless number is charged as a wireless call, and premium-rated numbers cost extra.

Supporting quotations

Unless you subscribe to a package or rate plan that includes international long distance, you will be charged pay-per-use rates for calls or messages initiated from the U.S. to any other country. International long distance calling rates are charged on a per-minute basis and are subject to change without notice.
Unless a foreign country is included as a calling destination within your rate plan’s coverage area, international long distance rates are charged for each call in addition to usage of your rate plan voice airtime minutes.
If a call is placed to an international wireline number and the call is forwarded to a wireless number, you will be charged for a call terminated to a wireless number.

Charges follow your rate plan, unused allotments expire, and off-network charges depend on the cell site location

Usage and monthly fees are billed as your rate plan terms specify, and your Customer Service Summary estimates your total monthly bill. Unless your plan specifically provides otherwise, unused predetermined allotments of airtime, messages or data do not carry over between billing cycles. Usage on networks AT&T does not own is limited as your plan provides, and charges are based on the location of the site sending and receiving service, not your location.

Voice minutes round up and billing can start before a call rings or connects

Unless your plan says otherwise, calls on AT&T's network incur per-minute airtime charges, and partial minutes are rounded up to the next full minute. For outgoing calls billable time may start when you press Send or when the call connects to a network; for incoming calls it starts when the call connects, which may be before it rings. Without unlimited texting, every sent or received message is charged, read or not, solicited or not

If your plan lacks unlimited or allotted messaging, standard pay-per-use rates apply to every message sent or received, whether read or unread, solicited or unsolicited. A text is generally 160 characters, but messages with emojis or non-Latin characters may be limited to 70, and longer messages count as multiple messages. MMS is limited to 1 MB (100 MB with RCS), and AT&T may change size limits. Messages sent to tablets, laptops and other connected Devices are excluded from unlimited messaging plans. On non-unlimited plans, each part of a multi-part message is charged, premium messages cost their stated rates, international messages cost more, a message to several recipients is charged once per recipient to the sender and to each recipient, and each RCS text or attachment counts as a separate SMS or MMS. Without a messaging or data plan you may still use and be billed pay-per-use.

Generally, one text message equals 160 characters; however, text messages that include special characters, like emojis or non-Latin alphabet characters may be limited to 70 characters.
Messages sent to tablets, laptops, or other connected Devices are excluded from unlimited messaging plans or plans including unlimited messaging.
Plans that do not provide for unlimited messaging are subject to the following provisions:
When a single message is sent to multiple recipients, the sender is charged for one message for each recipient and each recipient is charged for the message received.
With Advanced Messaging (RCS) chat, your wireless rate plan’s SMS and MMS rates apply. Each text/file attachment counts and is charged as a separate SMS/MMS.
If you do not enroll in a monthly recurring plan for messaging or data, you may still have access to messaging and data and be charged on a pay-per-use basis if you use those Services.

Data is rounded up per session and keeps billing on cellular even after you join Wi-Fi mid-session

Data usage is billed in full KB or MB increments based on your plan, rounded up to the next full unit at the end of each session, and session totals are added up for the billing period. Network overhead, software update requests, email notifications and resends caused by network errors can increase measured usage. A data session started on AT&T's network continues on cellular until it ends even if you connect to Wi-Fi meanwhile, for example a download started on cellular finishes on cellular. Your bill may not itemize data by site, session or service.

Network overhead, software update requests, email notifications, and resend requests caused by network errors can increase measured KBs or MBs. A data session started on our network will continue until the session ends, even when you connect to a Wi-Fi network after the session starts.
Your bill may not separately identify the data usage attributable to your use of specific sites, sessions or services used.

Background app data counts, even without your knowledge and even if a transmission fails

Data use occurs whenever your Device is connected to AT&T's network and transmitting data, whether you started it or it runs automatically in the background without your knowledge, and whether or not the transmission succeeds. Some apps and software, including preloaded ones, regularly send and receive data on their own to function.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Data allowances are U.S.-only unless your plan says otherwise, and overage data may be added and charged automatically

Your plan's data allowance covers U.S. usage only, unless other locations or international roaming are included in your plan or package. Once you exceed your monthly allowance, including any Bonus or Rollover Data, you may automatically receive and be charged for additional data increments as your rate plan specifies. Overage data can be used only in the billing period it was provided and does not roll over.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

Late-billed usage counts against the month it is billed, even if that causes extra charges

Domestic data passes start counting down at activation and stop when data or time runs out

Domestic Plans come with an MB or GB allotment for a set period that starts running at activation whether or not you use the service. If you use the whole allotment early, data access stops for the rest of the period unless you buy another Plan. If you buy another Plan before the current one ends, usage continues under the current Plan until it expires, and the new Plan's period (and any auto-renewal) starts then, or at purchase if the prior Plan already expired. Buying a new auto-renewing Plan stops earlier Plans from auto-renewing. Domestic Plans include the U.S.

Supporting quotations

The specified period of time begins to expire immediately upon plan activation, whether or not you are using the service. If you purchase a Domestic Plan with a data usage allotment and you use all of your allotment prior to the expiration of the specified period, your access to our Data Services will cease for the remainder of the specified period.
If the additional Plan purchased has an automatic renewal, prior Plans with automatic renewal will not automatically renew.

Charges & Financial Obligations · Restriction or exception

International data passes need an active domestic pass; if it lapses, U.S. usage eats the international pass

International Plans have an MB or GB allotment for a set period, should be bought before travel, and require a current Domestic Plan at purchase. If the Domestic Plan expires first, all later usage, domestic or international, is deducted from the International Plan until it expires or a new Domestic Plan starts. You can future-date the start up to 60 days (activating at midnight Eastern); otherwise it starts at purchase. Access ends when the period expires or the allotment is used up, whichever is first, and International Plans do not auto-renew.

Supporting quotations

You must be currently subscribed to a Domestic Plan at the time of purchase. If the Domestic Plan expires prior to the completion of the International Plan, all usage following the expiration of the Domestic Plan, whether domestic or international, will be deducted from the International Plan until such time as that Plan expires or another Domestic Plan becomes active
International Plans do not automatically renew.

Worldwide data passes cover U.S. use too unless you hold a separate domestic pass; they do not auto-renew

Worldwide Plans have an MB or GB allotment for a set period, can be bought alone or with a Domestic Plan, and should be bought before travel. Without a separate Domestic Plan, data used in the U.S. and listed countries all comes out of the Worldwide allotment; with one, domestic use comes from the Domestic Plan and international use from the Worldwide Plan, but if the Domestic Plan expires first all usage comes from the Worldwide Plan until a new Domestic Plan starts. Start dates can be future-dated up to 60 days. Access ends when the period expires or the allotment is used, whichever comes first, and Worldwide Plans do not auto-renew.

AT&T repairs or replaces damaged equipment as it deems necessary and may charge a fee, and repair may delete content or reset settings. You pay for technician visits caused by things not attributable to AT&T, including refusing troubleshooting. You pay repair or replacement costs if you own the equipment or AT&T determines damage came from your intentional acts, negligence or misuse, and any tampering, such as opening or modifying equipment, is treated as such damage.
