Adobe says it limits access to your Content, but its Services and Software access Local and Cloud Content to run

Adobe says it respects your rights to your Content and limits its access to it in the ways listed in section 2.2. One listed way is operational use: the Services and Software will access your Local and Cloud Content to enable their normal running, for example allowing Photoshop to open your file so you can edit it. The summary says no one but you owns your content, but Adobe needs access as necessary to operate its applications and services and limits that access to very specific purposes.

Supporting quotations

We respect your rights to your Content (defined in Section 4.1) and limit our access to your Content in the following ways:
Our Services and Software will access your Local and Cloud Content to enable the normal running of the Services and Software, for example, allowing Photoshop to open your file so you can edit it.
No one but you owns your content, but we need access to your content as necessary to operate Adobe applications and services. We limit our access to very specific purposes.
“Content” means any text, information, communication, or material, such as audio files, video files, electronic documents, or images, that you upload, import into, embed for use by, or create using the Services and Software.

Qualifications & exceptions

  • "Content" is material you upload, import into, embed for use by, or create using the Services and Software (section 4.1).
  • "Local Content" is Content stored locally on your device; "Cloud Content" is Content you have uploaded to Adobe’s servers or created using its cloud-based Services.

Adobe says it does not scan or review Content stored locally on your device

For Content stored locally on your device (Local Content), Adobe says it does not scan or review it, and that your Local Content is never reviewed by Adobe. This sits alongside the separate statement that Adobe’s Services and Software access Local and Cloud Content in order to run, for example opening a file for you to edit.

Supporting quotations

For Content stored locally on your device (“Local Content”), we do not scan or review your Content.
Your Local Content is never reviewed by us.
We don’t scan or review content that is stored locally on your device.

Qualifications & exceptions

Cloud Content may be automatically scanned for illegal or abusive content; a person may review flagged items

For Content you have uploaded to Adobe’s servers or created using its cloud-based Services (Cloud Content), the Terms say it may be automatically scanned to make sure Adobe is not hosting illegal or abusive content, such as Child Sexual Abuse Material. The summary adds that the review starts with an automated machine-driven process, and that if automated systems or another user flag an issue, a person may review the content to confirm whether it is illegal or abusive. Screening covers certain illegal content and other abusive content or behavior, for example patterns of activity that indicate spam or phishing.
